ABOUT THE PROJECT The new facilities at Old St. Mary's will be completed in two phases. Phase I will be the construction of a new school, and Phase II will be the new Parish Center and gym. The parish is currently working on Phase I of the project.
The new Old St. Mary's School will be a 33,000 square foot, three-story building on Michigan Avenue. It will face the church, and be designed to complement the architecture of the church.
The school will have everything necessary to serve our students from preschool through eighth grade. It will include: 18 classrooms, a large, multi-purpose room for assembly, a Learning Resource Center, a Fine Arts Room, and a Science Lab.
We are also excited to note that this facility will be a "green" building! To the extent possible, the design will follow the guidelines of the United States Green Building Council and will be LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficient Design) Certified.
Old St. Mary’s has a history longer than any Chicago parish with traditions of welcoming all who come, of faith and family, of educating our children in the Catholic faith, of reaching out to the community, and of building our future for generations yet to be born.
